WINTER WEATHER BULLETIN

NOVEMBER 2023

Winter weather is coming soon, and we want you to be prepared. Adhesives, similar to other chemicals, can be impacted by lower temperatures and winter precipitation.

Below is information on how to maximize product performance when constructing during winter months or you can download the full file here.

Construction Adhesive (Aerosol Can/Canister)

  • Temperature controlled environment (50°F and above)
  • Storage below 50°F can impact product performance
  • If material was stored at below 50°F vigorously shake container before using
  • Application temperature 40°F and rising
  • Material surface temperature 40°F and rising
  • Service temperature 20°F to 150°F
  • Not recommended for application to concrete slab surfaces which are frozen or when ambient or material temperatures are below 40°F
  • Agitate/shake product containers regularly to prevent settling of adhesive inside container
  • Adhesive bonding and ready time can increase with temperatures below 50°F. Test adhesives bond readiness by touching.
    • Adhesive is ready when dry to the touch
    • When touching adhesive it should not pull away from substrate.
  • Overapplication can increase adhesive bonding ready time
  • Bonding surfaces should be dry and with no dew or ice present in bonding areas
  • Follow concrete slab preparation best practices
  • Want to keep forming below 40°F or you have damp slabs, use our WeatherGrip or WeatherGrip MAX products to keep the project rolling and your slabs hole free.

WeatherGrip and WeatherGrip MAX

  • Controlled dry environment above 20°F
  • Application temperature 20°F and rising
  • Material surface temperature 20°F and rising
  • Service temperature -40°F to 200°F
  • Do not apply to frozen surface
  • WeatherGrip products increase in viscosity (thickness) as the temperatures drop below 40°F
    • Storing product above 40°F will help prevent material being firmer while dispensing
    • If the material is thicker during dispensing it is important to apply heavy pressure to achieve proper compression of bonded materials.
  • Retain standard bead size to minimize over application
    • Increasing bead size can increase cure/bond time
  • Adhesive handing and fully bonded time will increase at temperatures below 40°F
  • Follow concrete slab preparation best practices
  • If you need more strength or bond flexibility than our original WeatherGrip project, try WeatherGrip MAX. With increased bond strength and elasticity, it is designed for difficult to bond situations.
